March 4th was a Success - Now We Need to Organize

Our schools, colleges and universities have faced crippling attacks over the past years. Our transportation systems, public health and other social services are being cut back, just when they are needed most by people facing layoffs and being evicted.

On March 4th, hundreds of actions, rallies and events, involving tens of thousands of people, took place across California to defend public education and oppose all the cutbacks. The biggest rally was in San Francisco, where over 12,000 people came together from around the Bay Area.

March 4th was a day of determination and anger. It was a day:

  • We felt our strength
  • We counted our numbers
  • We saw our possibilities

Anyone who was involved in the day’s organizing or went to San Francisco on March 4 could see the potential for a real widespread fight back against the attacks we have been facing and the mounting attacks ahead.

We need to organize ourselves. Some of us helped organize the events on March 4 and others came in support. Now each of us needs to become an organizer to expand our efforts – in our families, at our schools, at work, in our neighborhoods and community groups. We need to plan our next steps and prepare to support each other in the struggles that lie ahead.

We can put forward our own demands to respond to the economic crisis, to protect our jobs, lives and futures.  No More Cuts! Quality Education and Public Services For All!  No More Lay Offs or Wage Cuts!

We need to mobilize our forces. We cannot depend on anyone else. We are the only ones who can do this. We are the majority and have the numbers and the strength – if we organize together.

We need to put the politicians and their wealthy backers on notice that we are a force greater than the ballot box – the force of those who do the work to make California run.

The line has been drawn. We are ready to use all of our strength, all of our possibilities to fight for our future. Join us!
